Weekly Events

This week has been both good and bad and I got news of the events in the space of about ten minutes. It was strange.

Anyway, there are about five kids in our neighborhood that come out to play with Bailey each day when we walk around the side of the house to get the mail. We call them Bailey's fan club. He adores the attention. It's not uncommon to find him spread-eagle with his legs up in the air getting energetically scratched from five pairs of little hands.

Anyway, I was becoming concerned that I hadn't seen the kids for a while. Yesterday the mom of several of the kids came out to tell me that Vanilla, their 8-month puppy had died on Wednesday of Parvo. Parvo is a virus that affects canines, particularly puppies. Of course, the saddest part about this is that parvo is almost 100% preventable if an owner sticks to the recommend vaccine schedule when the dogs are young. So, perhaps Vanilla didn't get all of his vaccines. Bailey is up to date but we're going to keep an eye on him for the next week or two just to make sure he didn't pick it up.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum, after I talked to Vanilla's owner, I picked up our mail and discovered that I had passed an environmental state certification test. I passed the first one a year ago and this one was the second (and last) one. Now I get to have lots of pretty (but rather meaningless) letters after my name on my business cards. :) So I'm pretty excited about that. That was a nice way to end the week.

That's about all the exciting news from my end. We're planning on a pretty quiet weekend. We went to the Orange County Car Show last night and today we're going to go for a bike ride. As I'm typing this, Bailey keeps coming in and butting his head against my knee. I guess it's time to feed him.

Cheers,
Sonja
