Um, it's very pretty, my dear.

Back when I worked at Waterstone, I had a sweet cubicle neighbor that was always bringing Bailey homemade dog treats. Not surprisingly, Bailey adored her.

In her honor [and in a rather blatant attempt to win back my pup's affection after an unfortunate incident with a too-tight dog jacket] I tried my hand at homemade treats.

Let's just say that it didn't go well.

First of all, the ingredients were an unappetizing combination: parsley, chicken broth, whole wheat flour. And meaty baby food mush.

Wait, that didn't sound right: It was meat mush for babies. Not of babies.

Regardless, not my idea of a tasty cookie.
Second of all, the recipe called for baking and then overnight drying.

They were dry alright. Hard too.

I packaged 'em up in a sweet little sack and then attempted to put a hole in the largest one to hang on the outside of the bag as decoration.

Knives, chisels, and hammers didn't work. Good thing I've been perfecting my drilling technique during chicken coop construction.

The hole drilled [success!], I was left trying to remember why I thought a bloated mud-colored star made of baby food mush would be a nice decoration.

Bailey dug it though.

The way to our dog's heart? Meaty baby food mush.
