Living Roof Update

I was up weeding on the roof the other day. Here is a quick peek at our progress. Which, frankly isn't much. It's looking a little barren. To me, at least. But that's probably due to the fact that I go back there everyday, give it the 'ole hairy-eyeball glare, and mutter: "Roof, why aren't you growing? GROW FASTER".

And some of the succulents have new buds.
And I love how Bailey discovers that while he can't climb the ladder onto the roof, he can still find a sunny spot nearby from which to keep tabs on me. He's like my own personal shadow.
In other news, I'm feeling rather discouraged about the rest of the garden.  I'm finding that I'm intimidated by the size of the yard. 11,000 square feet may not sound like much, but to me it's about the size of the Amazon jungle. There is so much to do and I'm despairing that we will never truly be able to rid ourselves of the ivy infestation. At this point, I don't even know where to start.

And then there's my vegetable garden (below), which, was beautifully plowed this spring. It was primed and ready for planting. And then...nothing. First I was waiting for us to finish the shed, then the weather was lousy for the entire month of May, then we had family staying with us and then we went on vacation and all the while my beautiful plot o land is turning into a wild jungle of weeds. We've been back for a week too, and I haven't gone out there once.

Too bad the state fair doesn't have a prize for the tallest, most robust weed. I'd win by a landslide.
