Benjamin's Nursery

Finally, here are some pictures! Only a few three months late.

This room doesn’t really have a specific theme; we started with the walls and added in a few pops of color. The stripes on the circus flags actually provided a lot of the inspiration and I ended up painting a few things bright sunny yellow and avocado green. A good portion of the stuff we already had (bookshelf, some artwork) but the crib, glider, and dresser were all bought new, despite mad craigslist searching for both the dresser and chair.

Here is the rundown:

West Wall: Closets and changing table. Most of Ben’s clothes and diapers are stored in the dresser.

North Wall: Window seat, nightstand, and glider/ottoman. Click
here for more details on the Umbra Wallflowers . Also click here for a tutorial on the yellow and green flower pillows from Martha Stewart.

East Wall: Crib. Sometime I’ll have to go into detail about the super awesome family tree artwork that I had planned for the large wall above the crib. I put it all together and then came to the realization that having 16 framed pictures of family members (in heavy wood and glass frames) hanging above the head of our precious child in an earthquake prone area was a really dumb idea. So those are slated for the hallway. More on that later. Instead I bought wrapping paper and suspended the sheets from green hangers. Inexpensive and easy to change out down the road. [here is the tutorial for creating the hangers]. But for now we’re rocking the nerdy biology prints. It’s just who I am.

South Wall: Not a whole lot. Just the tree art and Wally the Bear. [Click here for the wall decal installation post]

Details:
Wally the Bear is perched upon an old child’s chair that I found by the side of the road. We have a few things from the nursery that were given quick paint facelifts. Check ‘em out here.

Yawn. The occupant is not very impressed. He just wants more MILK!

Of course, this wouldn’t be a proper learning experience if things were perfect. Take a look at the [rather long-ish] list of things we’d do differently next time, as well as items that didn’t make it into the finished room
