A couple of times a year a visiting relative will watch them. But, we don't go out when they're visiting for several reasons. Partly because we don't see them that often so we want to visit with them too, and usually visits are very short. (Like 3-4 days) With your living near family and having siblings that visit a good bit it sounds like that makes it easier and your kid knows them better. Our kids often get scared when they're left with the relatives because they don't know them that well.

Secondly, some of the grandparents have medical issues they're dealing with that in the past have left us with concerns when they did watch our kids.

I really prefer to just be home with my kids and Brian and I can get quiet time when they go to bed. But, we do have our first date night planned with his step-sister babysitting coming up this month. I was excited about it, and now I'm just nervous. Going out on a date night isn't relaxing for me the way it sounds like it is for you. We'll see if I can work my way through that, but my odds are on that not happening. I'm okay with that though...at least until they're old enough to talk with and explain where they understand.

Oh, these are all excellent suggestions. I'm going to add Chris and my's (my's? I's?) medical information too and add the whole shebang to my earthquake kit.

You might already have it under medical conditions & it might be a bit too much info...but current meds? Obviously takes a bit more work b/c it involves regular updating. I think emergency responders usually ask what medications the individual is taking...to find out if they're having a possible reaction/overdose or so healthcare providers don't accidentally treat them with a med that has a bad reaction with meds the individual is already taking. What a good idea - I need to get on the ball with an emergency list for us too.
