Photo O' the Day: Africa

We saw this herd of elephants at sundown on our second day in Zambia. They were by the Zambezi River, grazing on tall grasses and leaves. It was a large group, perhaps some 15 animals strong and we were amazed by the destructive power exhibited on that poor river bank: grasses flattened, trees stripped bare of bark and leaves. It was fascinating.

We saw the same herd on our final day in Zambia. They were on one side of a small creek, we were on the other. Evidently they liked our side better and the entire herd slowly, ponderously, forded the river. The humans scattered.
