Ode to the Subaru

The Subaru is not a fancy car. It will not go 0 to 60 in 2.2 seconds and there is no feng shui interior. It is, at best, utilitarian. However, I would just like to say that my Subaru is an awesome vehicle and that it was proven, once again, on our drive this morning. It gets fairly decent gas mileage (20+ mpg), doesn't require any fancy fuel and it has all-wheel drive. It's a great car for driving in snow and it has plenty of room in the back for the dog, camping gear, field equipment, etc. And today, it was the king of the dirt road. We had to drive on about 10 miles of dirt road to get to the start of the hike. The road was potholed, pitted and there were about 7 or 8 stream crossings. We saw three jeeps, four dirtbikes, and...our little Subaru legacy. No SUVs, vans or sedans dared to travel the road. We drove right up the mountain and shorted our hike by a good ten miles, which was a good thing, considering the biting flies.
