Daily dose of Bugs and Dogs

Lazy Dog

I was complaining this week to my co-worker that despite having a fig tree, I rarely see any green fig beetles. My co-worker stated that he had buckets and buckets of beetles and that he'd be on the lookout for any dead ones for me. That very night I happened upon a beetle while out walking with Bailey. As you can see, he's pretty mushed. Pretty, though.

we had those in mom & dad's yard.I always thought it was a Green June Beetle, even though the book I have lists the East coast & Gulf states as it's range. Scarab family. UB

  2. I'm wondering if they're one and the same: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Figeater_beetle

I looked up pictures of the larvae and it looks like I had several thousand of them inhabiting my worm bin along with my maggots. Had I waited out the maggot infestation, I might have had a lovely crop of beetles as well. Oh well.
