The tally for tonight (so far): 4

We are back to waking up every two hours again at night. We haven't had this much fun since Ben was four weeks old. My god I want to sleep.

Update: oh, that was a special one. Only an hour between wakeup times.

  1. Sounds like he could be working on a physical skill. My kids always woke up a good bit when working on something physical. Has he rolled over yet?

  2. He's rolling back to front very successfully but then gets stuck there. Still working on getting back o his original starting point.

  3. Is he on his tummy when you come and get him ever? If he is my guess would be that's what he's doing, or he's working on the back to front roll in his sleep and it's waking him up.

I'm surprised he rolled back to front first. Usually it's the opposite. And if you want to help "speed" up the other rolling, put toys just out of his reach to the sides and that will often cause them to roll front to back during tummy time. :)

Our boys have gone through some really rough patches with sleep. I count it a success when they each only wake up twice a night. Some people get lucky with babies sleeping--others don't. It seems like there's always something: teeth, crawling, standing, walking, talking, molars. I think the key to getting through it is getting a nap every few days and realizing that it does get better eventually.

  5. Thanks you two, for the encouragement! Amanda, I think you've nailed it -lots of frustration with the rolling. I'll definitely try out your tips..would love to have him master this one. I am not one that adapts well to sleep loss! Felicia: do your boys wake up separately and then wake the other up or can one sleep though the others' crying?

They generally sleep through the each other crying. But that means they average four wake ups between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. I end up staying up late to catch the first K at 11:30. Then I'm up at 1:30 with R and 4:15 with K. When R wakes up for the morning at 5:30, my night is over too, usually.

If I look at them individually, they're each really only waking up once in the middle of the night and once at the beginning or end of the night, which I would consider very good. Sometimes I get worked up about not sleeping more, but I've adapted to getting 5.5-7 broken hours a night. I just keep telling myself that someday I'll sleep again... then I go get a nice, sugary, caffeinated drink. :-)
