Daily DC: Bugs Galore

I spent most of my time visiting various Smithsonian museums and the memorials located within the National Mall. By far, my favorite museum was the National History Museum. It was excellent. They have a splendid bug and butterfly section, my second favorite area of the museum.

I'd just like to state for the record that I am insanely jealous of the Smithsonian's insect collection (see photo, above). I can only imagine the thousands of specimens that are stored in those drawers.

It is no surprise that theft from these collections is so common. Scholars in every field covet these goods and some succumb to feeling they should be the rightful holders. Even more the case when the ethics of collecting from the field are questionable. Tom
