Camera Bag Updates

Ok, I think I’m going to attempt to make a bag. Still thinking about interior padding options. Foam is supposed to be better than cotton batting but I don’t want it to be bulky.

Take a look at a few of the bags that I’m pondering via pinterest.

  1. If I can make a suggestion. Avoid the slouchy bags. They won't provide the support in the bottom you'll need. Mostly due to the design...they're supposed to sag. Do a structured bag. Make it so that there's something supportive in the bottom (i.e. cardboard, foamboard) so you can slide it out so you can wash it).

And having tried zippers...if you plan to use one...practice practice practice first. It took me a while to get confident in them. If you are nervous about zippers consider something that has a large flap (i.e. messenger bag style) that goes over the top and front and closes with maybe a magnetic clip or large fabric covered button.

I plan to use cotton/bamboo blend batting personally. I may double up on it, but I don't think foam will be as long lasting (washer friendly) and will be a lot bulkier. :) Food for thought...

  2. Hi Amanda -

I always appreciate your input, thank you. And your suggestions make lots of sense, especially the supported bottom. I’m pondering if I should try a camera insert first (and tailor it to my specific needs) and then build the bag around that…still pondering my options on this one.

I cannot wait to see what you come up with!
Here is a similar insert to what I’m thinking about:

  3. Oh, that's cool! You know...you could just get a PDF pattern for a structured bag you like, make that and then add in some padded, velcro inserted, things for the lenses. Hmmm...
