Handmade Birthday: Overalls

I went down to the fabric store with my mom a few weeks ago and picked out the pattern and fabric for Ben’s birthday overalls.

I like the pattern: it’s definitely a baby/toddler style, rather than a more grown-up kid overall.... but I’m ok with that. I don’t want my sweet boy to grow up too quickly. Besides, it was listed as ‘easy’. Sold.

The main material is a soft charcoal corduroy and the interfacing has little blue birds. Nice and simple.

I’ve started work, with significant guidance from my mom. Reading the pattern was a heck of a lot more difficult that I had anticipated. Especially if you don’t know all the terminology. Thanks for the assistance, Mama!

I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out.

  1. Love the charcoal! Can't wait to see it finished. :)

And now I leave you with this sewing tidbit: The blue bird fabric is lining. Interfacing would be a stiffener or support that would be inside of the garment between the fabrics...usually sewn or ironed onto the "wrong side" of a fabric (if the garment called for it). ;) Yeah...I'm a sewing nerd.

  2. Eek! Lining!!! Yes, thank you, Amanda. Definitely still working on the proper terms. ;)
